“The details are not the details. They make the design” Charles Eames

If you are persnickety and pay attention to detail, this is the first and foremost reason that you should involve an artisan in the design process. Our first stop is custom lighting design, and you’re probably wondering whether any lighting will do as long as it is placed within a specific range to create a balanced lit room. And the answer is yes – if you are of modest means and your house just needs light.

But if you want to create an ambiance (i.e., mood and atmosphere), then an artisan would incorporate those crucial details into the custom lighting design. This is the same reason you would want a piece of furniture replicated by an actual artisan. The artisan may not be the original designer, but you will get a better piece since materials have improved, and the artisan might notice a small detail that would be better if eliminated. If he is a true craftsman, he will ask before implementing a change.

Here are some of our past blogs to shed some light on (no pun intended) why artisans make considerable differences in design projects.
