Blending Design Styles
The home, located by the Swan River in Western Australia, combines Spanish-Hacienda style with European sophistication. Gabrielle Sherwood of Sherwood Design calls the home a “modern ode to Spanish Colonial design” and is responsible for designing the home that is surrounded by 180 degree water views. According to Sherwood, her direction was to mix “historical grandeur with contemporary sophistication,” without sacrificing comfort throughout the home. Located in one of the best sections of Perth, the home was specified from head to toe, and is a blend of modern and traditional sensibilities.
The entrance to the home is referred to as the Great Hall, with its sweeping proportions. The entry was designed to face inwards, achieved with the use of B&B Italia’s large ‘UP7 Foot’ sculpture by Gaetano Pesce in the middle of the space.
Sherwood used a mix of ready-made furniture with bespoke pieces from her sister company, Sherwood Furniture to decorate the home. To achieve a vintage look, Sherwood used several techniques, including chain distressing, finishing methods such as hand-painting and shading, distressing, and patinating, and water-based stains to enhance colors to bring out the look of the timber.
ADG Lighting Brings Pizzazz to the Project
This project just goes to show how ADG Lighting is a global force in the lighting business. Gerald Olesker, founder and CEO of award-winning firm ADG Lighting, connected with a designer that Sherwood knew, and that’s how they ended up working together. Sherwood had liked the designs that Gerald had produced for other projects, so Gerald’s team ended up customizing these round alabaster lights. They also had to reduce the weight of the alabaster since the lights were hanging over a bed. The project took 10 weeks to complete.
Gerald Olesker leverages his background in architecture and over 20 years of experience as an Industrial Designer and to innovate. He has worked on projects worldwide, designing and manufacturing lighting for over 3 billion dollars in real-estate, worked with major cities and Fortune 500 companies, and completed several military installations. His philosophy is to be part of a collaborative that enhances the built environment through positive relationships. The relationship is with the client’s team, and in this case, the collaboration was a great success!
We crafted the round alabaster lights in the bedroom, adding beauty to the space. We thank Sherwood Design for allowing us to collaborate with them!
