ADG Collaborates on Australian Award-Winning Home

A very important project in which ADG has participated, was just featured in Belle Magazine Australia (@bellemagazineau). The Casablanca Project was named the Australasia Regional Winner in the Residential House Over £1M category at the prestigious Society of British and International Design Awards (SBID) 2024 – a global benchmark for top-notch design. The project was featured in an 8-page editorial spread.

Blending Design Styles

The award-winning home, located in Perth, Australia, combines Spanish-Hacienda style with European sophistication. Gabrielle Sherwood of Sherwood Design (@sherwooddesign) calls the home a “modern ode to Spanish Colonial design” and is responsible for designing the home that is surrounded by 180 degree water views. According to Sherwood, her direction was to mix “historical grandeur with contemporary sophistication,” without sacrificing comfort throughout the home. The home was specified from head to toe, from selecting hard surfaces to final styling, and is a blend of modern and traditional sensibilities.

Sherwood used a mix of ready-made furniture with bespoke pieces from her sister company, Sherwood Furniture to decorate the home. To get an aged appearance, they used several techniques, including chain distressing, finishing methods such as hand-painting and shading, distressing, and patinating, and water-based stains to enhance colors to bring out the look of the timber. The home also features curated art pieces and was influenced by the work of several designers, including Jake Arnold, Kelly Wearstler, and Australian designer Garth Barnett.

ADG Lighting Brings Pizzazz to the Collaboration

This project just goes to show how ADG Lighting is a global force in the lighting business. ADG crafted the round alabaster lights in the bedroom, adding beauty to the space. Gerald Olesker, founder and CEO of award-winning firm ADG Lighting, was connected to Sherwood by a friend designer in common. They were interested on ADG’s design for other renowned projects, and wanted Gerald’s team to create two customized round alabaster lights for the bedroom. Since the lights were hanging over a bed, the weight of the fixtures had to be reduced. The project took 10 weeks to complete.

Gerald Olesker leverages his background in architecture and over 30 years of experience as an Industrial Designer to innovate. He has worked on projects worldwide, designing and manufacturing lighting for over 3 billion dollars in real estate, worked with major cities and Fortune 500 companies, and completed several military installations. His philosophy is to be part of a collaborative that enhances the built environment through positive relationships. The relationship is with the client’s team, and in this case, the collaboration was a great success!
