Tucked into the quiet elegance of Pasadena’s historic South Grand Avenue, Mi Sueño—Spanish for “my dream”—is a living legacy of early California architecture. Built in 1916 for New York financier Herbert Coppell, the estate is a striking example of Spanish Revival design, thoughtfully executed by celebrated architects Bertram Goodhue and Carleton Winslow Sr., with romantic garden landscapes by Paul George Thiene.
A Historic Collaboration, Reimagined
When ADG Lighting was invited to contribute to the restoration and reinterpretation of Mi Sueño, it was an opportunity to blend our passion for craftsmanship with the soul of this storied residence. Working closely with interior designer Chris Barrett and drawing from the legacy of architect Gordon Kaufmann, our team developed a range of custom lighting and decorative metalwork that honors the spirit of the original design while bringing renewed warmth and depth to the interiors and exterior spaces.
From courtyard lanterns to intricate iron details, every element was handcrafted with reverence for the era—melding artisanal techniques with modern precision. The goal was never to replicate, but to revive—to allow the house to glow with its original intention, one light at a time.
Where Architecture and Atmosphere Meet
Mi Sueño is more than an architectural showpiece; it’s a space where structure and sentiment converge. Andalusian-inspired arches, terracotta roofs, hand-plastered walls, and richly textured ironwork tell a story of heritage, artistry, and vision.
ADG’s lighting designs were imagined as extensions of this story—quiet yet powerful gestures that illuminate, frame, and elevate each architectural detail.
A Glimpse Into the Dream
As this residence continues to inspire and evolve, ADG is proud to have played a part in its enduring narrative. The project is a testament to what can be achieved when architecture, history, and design come together with intention and artistry.
