Spread the Word

As everyone knows, every March is designated as Women’s History Month. We honor women who had a significant impact on history. Not only did they make a huge impact, but they did it against all odds and in turn created a future where other women could prosper.

Let’s talk about architect Wendy Evans Joseph. She was chosen to be the design architect for the Women’s Museum in Dallas, Texas. Wendy had previously worked as a senior designer for the Holocaust Memorial Museum. Wendy is also the founder of Studio Joseph, a leading architecture practice.

The Women’s Museum was created to inspire and show that women played a big role in our history through advancements in various technologies, as visionaries and as leaders. Unfortunately, on October 31, 2011 the museum closed its doors due to lack of funds.

This seems to symbolize the plight of women. It is in this light that we honor these female architects, which includes Wendy Evans Joseph. She has a knack for problem-solving, as well as a strong passion for art and museums. A living inspiration for all women.

Another great female architect to spotlight is Zaha Hadid. She was an Iraqi-British architect and the first woman to receive the Pritzker Prize, architecture’s biggest honor in 2004, and the Stirling Prize, which is the UK’s most prestigious architectural award in 2010 and 2011. In 2016, she was the first woman to recieve the Royal Gold Medal in architecture by the Royal Institute of British Architects.

In 1979, she opened her agency Zaha Hadid Architects. Her creativity and use of the surrounding landscape for inspiration add to her incredible futuristic designs. Hadid’s contribution to modern architecture is awe-inspiring. For example, the roof of the London Aquatic Centre is in the form of a wave. A true visionary even in today’s time.

Zaha also designed the Al Wakrah Stadium, which is the site for the 2022 Qatar World Cup.

Zaha Hadid died unexpectedly of a heart attack on March 31, 2016, with many of her projects yet to be completed. The world will just have to wait for another lifetime. Zaha truly left a wonderful legacy.
