Remembering the Fallen

Memorial Day marks the beginning of summer and a well need long weekend filled with outdoor activities and family gatherings. We are traveling the highways and airways to destinations of relaxation and entertainment.

While we are enjoying a weekend of much need rest and recreation, let us not forget why we celebrate Memorial Day. Many confuse the military related holidays (Armed Forces Day, Memorial Day, Veterans Day) and their true meaning.

Memorial Day is observed on the last Monday of May, honoring men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military. Originally known as Decoration Day, it originated in the years following the Civil War and became an official federal holiday in 1971.

In 2000, Congress establish the The National Moment of Remembrance, and asks Americans, wherever they are at 3 p.m., local time, on Memorial Day, to pause in an act of national unity for a duration of one minute. The time 3 p.m. was chosen because it is the time when most Americans are enjoying their freedoms on the national holiday. The Moment does not replace traditional Memorial Day events; rather, it is an act of national unity in which all Americans, alone or with family and friends, honor those who died in service to the United States.

On this Memorial Day, ADG Lighting is proud to honor and remember this brave men and women of the Armed Forces who honorably served and sacrificed their lives to this great nation. No matter how we choose to spend this holiday weekend, we hope that each of you will taken a few moments and pay your respects to our fallen heroes. Our thoughts and prayers will be with them on Monday at 3 pm for a moment of silence in their honor.
