Are you ready to get off the couch and walk? Join ADG Lighting on Oct 30th at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena for the annual JDRF walk.

JDRF and Type 1 Diabetes

Type 1 diabetes is usually diagnosed in children and young adults, and was previously known as juvenile diabetes. Only 5% of people with diabetes have this form of the disease. In Type 1 diabetes, the body does not produce insulin. The body breaks down the sugars and starches you eat into a simple sugar called glucose, which it uses for energy. Insulin is a hormone that the body needs to get glucose from the bloodstream into the cells of the body. With the help of insulin therapy and other treatments, even young children can learn to manage their condition and live long, healthy lives.

The ADG Lighting family proudly supports the Marks Family Marchers. We are inviting everyone to get the word out and support this important event. You can support the Marks Family either by joining us on the walk or sponsoring us through a donation. Either way, you will be making a difference in the lives of those with T1D. We have one goal for Oct 30th: that is to create a world without type 1 diabetes. This event will raise money for research that can be life-changing for the millions suffering from this devastating disease. To sponsor and/or walk for the Marks Family, click here.

Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease, where the body’s immune system attacks and destroys the beta cells in the pancreas that produce insulin, a hormone essential to turning food into energy. Insulin is needed to remove glucose from the blood, or it can cause damage to the body’s organs. Diabetes requires constant carbohydrate counting, testing for blood glucose, and lifelong injections of insulin.

The JDRF Walk brings together nearly 1 million people to change the future for people living with T1D by raising money for research and development of life-changing breakthroughs. With staff and volunteers in over 100 locations throughout the U.S., as well as six international affiliates, it is a true joint effort to advocate for a world without T1D.
