A simple box light says it all. The elements used to make each box’s simple shape is crucial. A lantern can be made from angle iron. Brass lanterns can be made from sheet or angle stock. there are different scales to each lantern.  Zinc lanterns are typically made from steel sheet that’s galvanized and dipped and then Zinc coated.tavi box lights ADG_01

Light fixtures are personal and can be made to order. A quick modified sketch will enhance and create any fixture from Architectural Detail Group. Client’s can expect full scale shop drawings for homes, hotels and commercial lightning projects.

Hearst at Greystone

Leading LA Lighting Firm Infuses Style of Hearst to Greystone Mansion Showcase

ADG Lighting Partners with L’Esperance Design for Titans of Business Themed 2013 Designer Showcase

LOS ANGELES – November 12, 2013 – ADG Lighting, a leading LA-based custom lighting firm, has joined creative forces with interior design company L’Esperance Design for the 2013 Designer Showcase at the Greystone Mansion in Beverly Hills.

Celebrating business titan William Randolph Hearst, the Greystone grand foyer was one of the spaces selected to honor the design taste of the media mogul. Renowned for their custom lighting work at the Hearst Castle in San Simeon, ADG Lighting selected atelier chrome fixtures and lamps that formerly sat at the Hearst estate for the showcase.1457463_644035882301375_155224688_n

“We were thrilled to work with L’Esperance Design on such an amazing and creative project,” said Gerald Olesker, Founder and CEO of ADG Lighting. “Our experience working at the Hearst Castle really inspired our thought process for the project, and we are proud to be part of the legacy being created at Greystone Mansion.”

The Greystone Mansion has been the site of countless television shows and movies such as X-Men, The Bodyguard, The Gilmore Girls, and The Social Network. The showcase celebrates design through the Titans of Business and Best of Design theme. Selected designers reinvented rooms in the spirit and taste of the chosen business titan, translating the space into works of art. Titans come from any of the following industries: Entertainment, Import/Export, Wine, New Media, Manufacturing, Banking/Finance, and Real Estate.

The space is themed out appropriately, with the influence of William Randolph Hearst as the Grand Entry’s Titan for the 2013 Greystone home tour.

The ADG Eco Lighting Atelier Chrome Collection Lamps were originally designed and manufactured for our Hearst Castle Collection. These magnificent lamps stayed at Hearst Castle for almost two years in a suite designed by Barclay Butera. They are now for sale and are seeking a good home.

The public will have the chance to procure selected Hearst-inspired pieces from the Grand Foyer. All fixtures for sale are part of the Hearst Castle Collection by ADG Lighting.

This is a once in a lifetime opportunity. Collection fixtures toured Hearst Castle for almost two years; the fixtures were chromed out for the Greystone Home tour. These legacy pieces will also be signed by Gerald Olesker.

The showcase runs through November 24th. For more information on ADG Lighting and the fixtures available for sale, please visit the company blog or call 818-597-9494. Additional information on the Greystone Mansion Showcase is available on the Design House International website.

According to Historic New England Organization the First Period (Post-Medieval English): 1600-1700. Those projects built during the first generation of settlement by English colonists, First Period architecture owes much of its appearance to building traditions from Europe. It could be argued that houses from this period are without style; they were not designed by architects. Yet several common elements mark these structures and two distinct traditions developed (northern and southern) with corresponding similarities of form and appearance. Each of these traditions took advantage of materials at hand as well as architectural features suited to their respective climates.

In New England, colonists departed from traditional European wattle and daub (woven lattice of wooden strips covered with a material……… http://www.historicnewengland.org/preservation/your-older-or-historic-home/architectural-style-guide

A Design Style unmatched by many. Virgil McDowell Craftsman, Artisan, educated is deemed by many a secret weapon in architectural styling.

According to my Good friend Virgil McDowell (project pictured above) his design approach brings careful attention to historical precedents or classical detail essential to graceful, well proportioned homes, whether in the eloquent symmetry of the Georgian facade, the Grand style of a Palladian Manner or the simplicity and restraint of a European farmhouse.

Many of these designs feature handcrafted limestone and custom ironwork. He also enjoy using older, traditional materials such as slate, antique heart-of-pine floors and unique architectural antique doors, floor tiles, and hand carved stone reliefs.

Part of Virgil’s expertise includes old world techniques of watercolor rendering similar to those taught at L’Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris, pencil rendering, both in perspective and evaluation, and quick sketch marker techniques, which enhance the communication process. Virgil will also depict his  strong background in the classical orders, proportion systems both exterior and interior and site/garden axial planning use by traditional architects of the past.

.Details · Details · Details

Fluent in all periods, styles and vernaculars. Virgil McDowell will take great interest in the design and planning of paneled rooms and other related case goods. The design process is collaborative with each client, inspired by and responsive to their specific desires, needs, program and budget.

Award winning project Great light fixtures too.

http://www.archdaily.com/tag/kaa-design-group/

Congratulations to our friends at KAA. They are a great client adn you should know that they are always award winning. Below is a project we completed some time ago with them.

Latitude 33, a luxurious collection of beach-side homes ranging from townhouses, penthouses, and single floor units, was partially designed from a forty year-old, nine-storey “eye sore for the neighborhood” that was once an office building. The mixed use development, designed by KAA Design Group, includes residential and commercial spaces in Marina del Rey in Southern . The strategic decisions involved with designing these apartments from an early 197os office building earned Latitude 33 two Gold Nugget Merit Awards, one of which was for Best .

Johannes Van Tilburg, FAIA, Principal Designer, Van Tilburg, Banvard & Soderbergh (VTBS): “The property site for Latitude 33 was an obsolete multi-level outdoor shopping center with a mid-rise office building, said Van Tilburg. “We were asked to redesign and reposition this property as a for-sale residential infill project. The original tower was converted from commercial office space to loft condominiums and penthouses. The tower’s look was completely altered by adding new structural frames to the exterior of the building providing an entirely new exterior skin. Abutting the tower site, we also designed townhouse-style lofts and additional parking. Conceived upon the balance of the site was a small-lot single-family development with three-story, two-car garage units fronting the Grand Canal of Venice.
